Course Description

New to sewing? This class is the perfect place to begin. Sewing 100 is the foundation of the Coastal Sewing Academy Skills Series. In this hands-on class, you'll become comfortable using a sewing machine while learning the essential skills every sewist needs before tackling projects. You'll learn: • Parts and functions of a sewing machine • How to safely operate your machine • How to thread the upper thread and wind/install a bobbin • Needle basics and when to change them • Thread selection and machine care • How to sew straight seams, pivot corners, and backstitch • Basic troubleshooting and common mistakes • Pressing and seam allowance basics • Simple practice exercises to build confidence By the end of class, you'll feel comfortable operating a sewing machine and be ready to move on to Sewing 101:Creating a Keychain Wristlet, where you'll complete your first finished project. No sewing experience is required. Bring your own sewing machine or reserve one of our classroom machines during registration.
