Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?

No! Classroom sewing machines are available at no additional charge. You’re also welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer to learn and practice on the machine you’ll be using at home.

Is there a minimum enrollment for this class?

Accepted Answer

A minimum of 4 students is required for the class to run. If minimum enrollment is not met, registered students will be contacted prior to class and given options for transferring to another class date or receiving a refund.

What does the material fee include?

Accepted Answer

The $11.75 material fee covers the supplies needed to complete your zipper pouch in class, including fabric, interfacing, zipper, and necessary hardware. Everything will be prepared for class so you can focus on learning and sewing.

What skills do I need before taking Sewing 102?

Accepted Answer

Students should already be comfortable with basic sewing machine operation, including threading the machine, winding and loading a bobbin, sewing a straight line, and backstitching. If you're brand new to sewing, Sewing 100: Machine Confidence is the best place to start.

Question 5

Do I have to take Sewing 100 or 101 first?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily! Sewing 100: Machine Confidence or equivalent basic sewing skills are required, but you do not have to take Sewing 101 first. If you can independently thread and operate your machine, wind and load a bobbin, sew a straight line, and backstitch, you're ready for Sewing 102.

What will I make in this class?

You’ll create a fully lined zipper pouch from start to finish. Along the way, you’ll learn how to work with interfacing, install a zipper, make and attach zipper tabs, and assemble exterior and lining pieces for a polished finished pouch.
